Holiday Inn, Scotch Corner
The Scotch Corner Hotel is an iconic building situated on the junction of the A1 and A66, an ideal location for business and leisure travellers alike.
Projekt were appointed to design the refurbishment of the existing hotel to Holiday Inn and IHG standards. Proposed works were split into five key stages, including the renovation of the north wing (reception, restaurant, main public bar and bedrooms), south wing (entrance, public areas, bedrooms, circulation spaces), proposed new conference facility, external works and signage, and full interior design to all areas.
The design proposals provided a contemporary aesthetic whilst being sensitive to the historic value of such an iconic hotel. The original Scotch Corner Hotel was established in 1939, and built on the site of a mid-16th century inn, so it was important to retain the 1930’s styling so recognisable to many.
This approach was reflected throughout all areas of the hotel, including fixtures, fittings, finishes and colour schemes, delivering a strong Art Deco concept in a hotel required to meet modern day standards and customer lifestyles.
The restaurant and bar areas were finished in black and red, with sleek horizontal detailing to the servery and seating booths. Public areas were completed with carefully chosen, patterned floor finishes and corresponding lighting schemes.
